Equal Opportunities and Thon Hotels launch Chickstart – a support scheme for girls' projects in sports
Equal Opportunities is taking a new step in its efforts to improve the framework conditions for girls in Norwegian sports. In collaboration with Thon Hotels we launch Chickstart – a national support scheme where teams, clubs and federations can apply for funding for initiatives that will create good environments and frameworks for girls in sports.
From individual projects to broad national initiatives
Equal Opportunities has worked together with Thon Hotels, among others, to give girls and women equal opportunities in sports. With Chickstart, we are taking this ambition to the next level. Where we have previously worked with Thon Hotels on individual projects within wrestling, volleyball and cycling, we are now opening up the possibility for sports teams, clubs and associations all over Norway to apply for support for their own girls' initiatives - regardless of sport, size or geography.
Support can be sought for this
Chickstart supports a wide range of initiatives – from equipment and cup participation to events, coaching courses and recruitment projects. What they all have in common is that they will contribute to giving girls the opportunity to play – and become good at – the sport they love.
The scheme is open to teams, clubs, special associations and sports circles affiliated with the NIF structure. Projects targeting children and youth are prioritized, and applications are assessed based on, among other things, relevance, feasibility and potential for lasting impact.
Ongoing awards throughout the year
Applications are processed on an ongoing basis, so that good initiatives can be supported when the need arises. In addition, one major award round is held each year, with an application deadline of 1 October and publication in November.
In 2026, the scheme will give greater priority to ongoing awards, as we are in a start-up phase and want to support initiatives that are already implemented this year.
